Construction has begun on The Seneca of Rockville, a $76 million community in Rockville, Md., one of the company’s three new developments in the Washington, D.C., market.

Construction has commenced on The Seneca of Rockville, a new senior housing community in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Rockville, Md. The developer of the $76 million project at West Gude Drive and Route 355 is Silverstone Senior Living.

Intended to serve seniors seeking elevated levels of service and care, The Seneca of Rockville will feature 116 assisted living and 30 memory care apartments. The community will offer multiple formal and casual dining rooms, as well as a number of events and activities designed to spur social engagement by residents.


The development will be the first for Silverstone Senior Living in Montgomery County.

Rockville is a beautiful, comfortable town with a rich culture that presented as the perfect location and demographic profile for a new, upscale senior living community,” Bobby Zeiller, chief development officer for Silverstone Senior Living, told Multi-Housing News. “With the senior living industry emerging in terms of quality and quantity of development activity, we knew this was the perfect time to make our mark in the city of Rockville and Montgomery County.”

The location offered many upsides, Zeiller added. “This is a redevelopment project, and we were able to design the senior living community we wanted and do so without disturbing the trees on the property,” he reported. “Importantly, the location is also near major transportation corridors, which is ideal for family, friends and associates to get to the community. We love the surrounding neighborhood and what it will offer for future residents.”


In addition to The Seneca of Rockville, Silverstone is developing two other senior living projects within the Washington, D.C., market. The company broke ground in May on a $75 million development in Fairfax, Va.

Another community, this one a $100 million development in Alexandria, Va.’s Potomac Yard, will begin construction before the end of the year. That community will be situated near the future Virginia Tech Innovation Center. It will also be located in proximity to the second headquarters of Amazon in Crystal City, an urban neighborhood in the southeastern corner of Arlington County, Va.
